How to fill a memorial jewelry piece
Have you just received your memorial jewelry and want to add the ashes of your loved one? Follow this step-by-step guide to fill and seal your cremation pendant with care.
1 Identify the opening mechanism
Carefully examine your memorial jewelry. Depending on the model, it may open in different ways: a screw at the top, a small screw at the back, or a screw at the bottom. Make sure you have identified it clearly before continuing.
2 Test the screw mechanism
Unscrew and re-screw the cap several times. This helps you understand how the jewelry works and ensures there are no threading issues between the two parts before you add the ashes.
3 Make a paper funnel
Cut ยพ of a circle from a sheet of paper. Fold it so the edges overlap to form a cone, then secure it with tape. Hold the jewelry at the funnel opening to gauge the correct hole size, then trim the bottom of the cone accordingly.
4 Add the ashes
Remove the screw. Using the funnel, gently place a small pinch of ashes inside the pendant. Do not fill it to the brim โ leave enough room to close the jewelry properly.
5 Clean the threading
Using a toothpick, gently clean the threading inside the pendant to remove any ash residue that may have settled there. This step is essential to ensure the screw can be properly re-tightened.
6 Check the closure
Re-screw the cap to verify it engages smoothly with the thread and that the jewelry closes without force. If the screw is difficult to insert, remove a small amount of ashes. The jewelry should close easily and completely.
7 Prepare the glue
Place a small drop of super glue on a piece of cardboard or paper โ just enough to dip the tip of a toothpick. Do not apply the glue directly from the tube.
8 Seal the jewelry
Unscrew the cap halfway. Using the toothpick, apply a thin layer of glue to the thread of the screw. Tighten firmly. If any glue gets onto the pendant, wipe it off immediately with a clean cloth before it sets.
